RSPB Loch of Strathbeg: Crimond

Situated approximately 5 miles south of Fraserburgh this is one of the biggest sites for wintering geese in the country.  From the panoramic observation room at Starnafin Farm  you can watch not only the thousands of geese in winter but also Whooper Swans, Snow goose, Bittern and Hen Harrier.  Recently Troop Head has been added to the RSPB reserves and this is situated a few miles west of Fraserburgh.  Here you can see Puffins and Guillemots in abundance                                                                                                                                                                     

The Lighthouse Museum, Fraserburgh:

Situated at Kinnaird Head this was formerly Kinnaird Castle, the home of  Sir Alex Fraser, the founder of Fraserburgh.  It was the first fortified castle to be converted to a lighthouse in the year 1824   

Maggie's Hoosie: Inverallochy

This is a preserved traditional But-N-Ben fishing cottage in Inverallochy two miles south of Fraserburgh.  It is typical of the type of house inhabited by fisher folk in this are in the early part of the 20th century.

The Heritage Museum, Fraserburgh;

This museum illustrates the rich history of this north-east Scottish fishing town, developed by the 8th Lord Saltoun in 1592.         

Philorth Sands: Fraserburgh

One mile south of Fraserburgh is this highly acclaimed nature reserve.  The beach is classed as one of the cleanest in the country  and regularly receives the prestigious Blue Flag award.

Aden Country Park

This is situated approximately 10 miles west of Peterhead.  Home of the Aberdeenshire Farming Museum it is also a great place to unwind with walks through the woods or you can visit the café and shop.  For the doggie folk there is a great dog exercise area with includes an agility course for those ‘would be’ Crufts hopefuls

Slains Castle: Cruden Bay

This is reputed to be the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s book Dracula, it is certainly a spooky and magnificent ruin well worth the trek from the car park or Cruden village.
Cruden Bay
Is an attractive little town with one of the best beaches in the area.  At the far end you may be lucky to see the seals backing on the rocks.  A mile north can be found the Bullars of Buchan.

Bullars of Buchan: Peterhead

 

Here is not for those with a fear of heights; the ‘Bullars’ are precipitous cliffs with a natural arch feature.  In the breeding season you can watch Puffins, Kittiwakes, Guillemots, Razorbills, Shags and Cormorants.
